Am Ostbahnhof 9

Berlin's Ostbahnhof station is one of the capital's busiest rail centres, covering the eastern areas of the city. It has an impressive modern station building although it is no longer the most central or important rail station in Berlin. It has nine platforms and a link with the S-Bahn commuter network, although there's no connecting station with the U-Bahn underground system. Visitors who collect a hire car from Ostbahnhof station will find that the city stands on the east bank of the Spree River in the district of Friedrichshain. It stands very close to the biggest remaining section of the Berlin Wall.
If you hire a car at Ostbahnhof Station, you'll drive straight into the Friedrichshain borough first. This suburb was once part of East Berlin named after its large park, which now features two apparently natural hillocks originally made from wartime bombing rubble. The Friedrichshain district has become one of the more trendy areas of the city that is home to bars, clubs and media organisations. Look out for the mix of fashionable pubs and galleries, with the prevalence of Stalinist architecture and old working class apartments. Further afield in the city, explore major attractions like the remains of the Cold War Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate.
