One of the north’s most energetic cities, Manchester is a large metropolis known for its music, nightlife, successful football teams and as a place to do business. There’s a plethora of major shopping centres, retail parks, industrial estates and more in Manchester, meaning that van hire can be very handy here.

We have several pick-ups offering van hire in the city, located at transport hubs such as the airport and Piccadilly Station, as well as IKEA and Costco. You’ll be able to pick up bulk purchases, large items of furniture and white goods with ease.

Van hire is also a popular way of moving students in and out the city’s universities, and for other house moves. With the flexibility to pick up a van at one branch and drop it at another, you’ll find it a convenient way to get from A to B whatever your reasons.

Driving in and around Manchester

As befits a city of Manchester’s size and importance, there are superb road links to the city. After all, this is a town that sometimes hosts over 100,000 people arriving just for a football match on a Saturday, in addition to all the other traffic.

There are two rings roads, an inner and an outer. The outer ring road is the M60 and opens up the Greater Manchester area to you and your van. It’s simple from here to access Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Stockport and more.

If you need to negotiate the centre of the city, the inner ring road is a combination of several other major roads in the city, including the Mancunian Way motorway (A57), Chester Road (A56) and Great Ancoats Street (A665). Other major northern cities are within easy driving distance as well, with the M62 connecting Manchester with Hull, Chester, Liverpool and Leeds. Birmingham lies two hours to the south on the M6, while Preston in an hour north on the M61. For Sheffield in South Yorkshire, head east on the A57.

Shopping highlights in the city include the Trafford Centre, where van hire in Manchester may come in extremely handy – it’s one of the biggest retail centres in the UK. Branches at IKEA in Stockport and Costco near Urmston means that we’ve got the city covered when it comes to moving large items that you’ve just bought or are picking up for somebody else.

There are numerous car parks in the heart of the city, but also some parking restrictions it’s worth making yourself familiar with, in addition to laws around loading and unloading. You can find all the latest details online, including locations of car parks.

If you’re helping family or friends move into the city, save some time for yourself and take in a match day, one of the city’s fantastic museums or explore the fabulous food scene in the Northern Quarter.
