Around 10 miles south of Berlin city centre you'll find the new Brandenburg International Airport. The modern complex stands next to the old Schönefeld Airport. The design includes an underground rail link and a central U-shaped passenger terminal. The airport facilities include an airport museum, gift shop and visitors' viewing tower. Visitors who collect a hire car at Brandenburg Airport soon find that the road connections are excellent - it has its own junction with the A113 motorway which heads right into the heart of the city or links with other motorways heading in all directions.
Berlin Brandenburg stands near beautiful rural attractions like the lakes and waterways of the River Dahme among the woods to the east of the airport. If you have a hire car you'll approach the city through the southern suburbs like up-market Steglitz and bohemian Neukölln. Towards Berlin's centre you can find major attractions like the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and the Reichstag. Of course, the German capital has a huge selection of shops, restaurants, museums and galleries too. Highlights include the Gemäldegalerie, Museum Island and the classic KaDeWe department store.
