After the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, and dependent on the outcome of the UK government’s current negotiations, customers from the UK may need an international driving permit and extra documentation to drive in Europe after 31 October 2019. These guidelines provide further details.

From June 8th 2015, the paper counterpart of the UK photo card driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by the DVLA. This change applies to Great Britain only and not Northern Ireland.
From June 8th 2015 when renting in the UK, Angola, Bahrain, Balearics, Botswana, Canaries, Croatia, Namibia, Oman, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden and Tunisia, all drivers with a UK licence (Great Britain) will need to provide evidence of any driving endorsements. This also applies if you have a paper licence that was issued before 1998.
To save time at the counter please bring a print out of your Licence Summary. The Licence Summary will be valid with Hertz for up to 30 days from the “Date generated.”

You will need:
- your driving licence number
- your National Insurance number
- the postcode on your driving licence
Once on the View Driving Licence web page,
- Click on the “Share Your Licence Information” tab.
- Click on the Create a Code button.
- Click the link “to View, print or save your licence information” and print out a copy of your Licence Summary.
Hertz will accept your Licence Summary up to 30 days from the date it was generated.
Alternative optionIf you do not have access to a printer, then please obtain the Unique Code that will be displayed. This will allow us to view your Licence Summary online. Please allow extra time for this process.
Note, Unique Codes are case sensitive so it is important to write in upper and lower case letters where relevant. From 10th July 2015 the unique check code is valid for 21 days. Previously the code expired after 72 hours.

You will need to bring the following items with you when you pick up your vehicle:
- Reservation details, including the reservation number, any rental voucher and the address and telephone number of the location from which you will be picking up your car.
- Your full valid driving licence and any necessary international driver's permits.
- A credit or debit card, in the name of the renter, to cover the cost of the hire and deposits plus the credit or debit card you booked with (if different).
- A third form of ID, such as a passport or utility bill.
- Full driving licence and additional ID for any additional drivers.
IMPORTANT: Customers with UK driving licences will be required to provide a copy of your driving licence summary, obtained from https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence, generated/printed not more than 30 days in advance of your rental.
We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the branch location and opening hours before your journey. Your confirmation email will include the pick-up location information, including the address, opening hours and key contact details.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled and you have provided us with your flight details in advance, then we will make arrangements to serve you. If you haven’t sent us your flight details, we recommend you contact the branch as soon as you are aware of any delays or cancellations.
Our pick up locations vary in size and facilities. Our larger locations have free Wi-Fi and play areas for your children. Airport locations provide a free shuttle service if your pick-up is away from the main terminal. Please refer to our Location Guide for full details of services available at each location.
Although we try to provide a car from the group or collection you reserved, in rare circumstances we may have to provide a suitable alternative due to high demand. From some collections, like the Dream Collection, you will be guaranteed the car you requested.
If you would like our staff to demonstrate the range of features on your vehicle to enhance your rental experience, please ask at the counter and they will be glad to help you.
We clean and inspect all of our vehicles prior to renting and will give you a Pre-Rental Inspection Form highlighting any existing damage to the vehicle. It is important that you add any unrecorded damage to this form before you sign and drive away.
