Driving around Jersey
Driving on the island of Jersey is a pleasure thanks to the blissful landscapes. Hiring a car gives you the freedom to soak up Jersey’s spectacular views at your own pace.
St Helier – just 20 minutes in a hire car from the airport, via the A12, A1 and A2 – is the laid-back and glamorous capital, where you’ll find yacht clubs, restaurants and the Jersey Opera House.
Elizabeth Castle crowns the horizon, while a handful of museums create cultural opportunities.
Car hire gives you easy access to Jersey’s other attractions – including the relaxing Botanic Gardens at Samarès Manor and Mont Orgueil Castle in the east.
Take Longueville Road and La Rue à Don to zigzag through tiny villages, or choose the A4 and A3 for scenic ocean views.
For the ultimate adventure, visit Jersey National Park on the west coast. It’s located close to Jersey Airport – so it’s easy to make this your first stop.
If you’re travelling from the capital, take the A12 or A13 then exit onto country lanes to be dazzled by golden fields. To enhance the experience, park your hire car at one of several car parks dotted along La Route de la Pulente to explore the sand dunes on foot.
To reach the Jersey War Tunnels from St Helier, follow the A2 to Millbrook. Then, drive your hire car along inland towards La Rue de la Ville Emphrie.
Central Jersey and the rugged north create opportunities to tour through the green farmland. You may spot an iconic Jersey cow.
Jersey’s maximum speed limit is 40mph on main roads. In built-up areas such as St Helier, the limit reduces to 20mph.
Designated Green Lanes have 15mph speed limits to protect the environment. Some roads are very rural, so watch out for wildlife.
