You'll find the city of Colorado Springs in the foothills of the mountains of the US state of Colorado. If you pick up a hire car in Colorado Springs you'll be able to access some fantastic hikes and trails beyond the downtown area to the west, where the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains rises steeply. Look out for the landmark Pikes Peak that is 14,115ft high but just 12 miles from the city centre. In the city itself you'll find many great restaurants serving a range of dishes, as well as the Garden of the Gods, a stunning city park.

The nearby mountains make Colorado Springs a popular adventure tourist destination. If you have a hire car here you'll be able to explore the city's extraordinary wide range of attractions, including the US Air Force Academy, the 'Garden of the Gods' rock formations and the ANA Money Museum. And if that's not varied enough for you, there's also a Fine Arts Centre, Olympic Training Centre and a carefully preserved historic quarter. Overlooking all of them, however, is the summit of Pikes Peak and it's surprisingly easy to drive there, using the 19-mile Pikes Peak Highway. You'll find a visitor centre with great views at the top.
