Rosenheim is almost older than the hills - the Romans established a military base here in around 15AD, but they were by no means the first people to settle in the area, as it has been inhabited since Neolithic times. The landscape itself was formed by a glacier, and you can still see the shoreline of a lake that vanished over 1, years ago. Rosenheim Castle predates 1234, while one of the original medieval gates of the market town from the Middle Ages still stands today. Being only 52km from Munich, it's easy to have a day out there if you hire a car in Rosenheim.
There are a lot of pedestrian-only zones in the city, but don't be put off hiring a car in Rosenheim, as the large road that runs through the city means that it's easy to get around by car. The city has many cultural treasures, like the Gothic church of St. Nikolaus, which has a spire 5,384ft tall. Rosenheim has two parks that are dedicated to displaying artwork and sculpture by local artists, the oldest of which was created in 1729. The countryside around Rosenheim is beautiful and quick to get to by road, while at night the Rosenheim Ballroom is a spectacle worth seeing.
