The Foz do Iguaçu International Airport, or Cataratas Airport, is the main air gateway to the Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil. The large modern airport, named locally after the ‘cataratas' or cataracts, is on the Brazilian side of the border. Visitors who hire a car at Foz do Iguaçu Airport find that it stands seven miles from the centre of the city of Foz do Iguaçu but only five miles from the Falls themselves. The Avenue das Cataratas leads straight from the airport to the bend in the River Iguazu where the spectacular Falls are visited by more than a million tourists a year.
Brazil's Foz do Iguaçu Airport is only a mile from the Argentine border and about 12 miles from Paraguay. It stands in the extreme south-western corner of the country and serves one of its main tourist attractions, the Iguazu Falls. If you hire a car from Foz do Iguaçu Airport you'll be able to visit the Falls and cross into the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazu for its shops, restaurants and casinos. Foz do Iguaçu is also home to the world's most powerful hydroelectric plant. Other highlights include the Triple Frontier spot where the three countries' borders meet and the Parque das Aves collection of exotic birds.
