Cala Ratjada is a coastal resort in the Balearic Island of Mallorca, built on the Punta de Capdepera peninsula. On a clear day you can see Menorca from the resort, and you can catch a ferry over to visit the old citadel. Car hire from Avenida Juan Carlos I in Cala Ratjada is recommended if you want to visit the Cala Mesquida beach, which is remote, quiet, and off the beaten track.
Other attractions include diving and water skiing from the port, and hiring a car from Cala Ratjada also makes it easy to get to Palma, the capital, which is only around 60km away. The city is great for shopping, with high street shops and markets.
Car hire from Avenida Juan Carlos I, in Cala Ratjada makes it easy to break away from the busy resort and escape into the more historical parts of the island. The restored Roman city of Alcudia is only an hour away by car, and is an amazing mix of ancient buildings, narrow streets, and high class restaurants.
If you rent a car from Cala Ratjada, then the caves that inspired the book Journey to the Centre of the Earth are only half an hour away – the fantastic rock formations and close atmosphere really do give the feeling of being way below the surface.
