Jersey is brimming with history and natural beauty, with a treasure trail of incredible attractions hidden within its 46 square miles. See them all with a hire car.
Explore Jersey's history
Unique geography has led to a colourful history for Jersey, but it has undoubtedly prospered.
Enchanting castles offer stunning ocean views and a window into the island’s unique relationship with the English Crown.
Mont Orgueil Castle has been at the heart of Jersey’s rich history for more than 600 years, playing a key role in both the French Revolution and English Civil War. On a clear day, you can even see France’s coast from the medieval turrets.
Elizabeth Castle is one of Jersey's most impressive landmarks. The fortress is accessible on foot at low tide, when great battlements dating back to 1590 are visible – as well as the hermitage where Saint Helier – the island’s patron saint - is thought to have retreated to in 550 A.D.
Throughout the year there are live re-enactments, complete with cannons and ancient weapons, so check the schedule if you want to witness these special events.
Take to the trails
Follow one of the many walking trails and tour the art scene in St. Helier. Walk beneath the colourful canopy of street art to see the community’s artistic side.
Or you can explore the Jersey National Park and see the island’s natural beauty in all its glory. Several routes offer coastal views across the English Channel, including the Really Wild West Walk and the North Coast Ramble.
Wrapping around the northern part of the island, the national park is a tapestry of wild beaches, swaying wetlands and sprawling farmland. There are 30 miles of coastline to explore, complete with sand dunes, rocky landscapes and sheer cliffs.
Go wild at Jersey Zoo
A hire car is a great way to travel further afield. A day trip to Jersey Zoo is the perfect outing for a family holiday.
Nestled between lush valleys, the zoo is spread across a number of ecosystems. This allows the wildlife and flora to thrive.
You’ll see majestic flamingos, gorillas, meerkats, and much more. Pack a picnic to because there’s plenty to see and do. There are playgrounds, keeper talks and rest areas.
Try golfing
Tee off on Jersey’s pristine lawns, where golfers can discover leisure with a touch of class.
The championship golf courses feature smooth, green fairways and rolling plains. At the Royal Jersey Golf Club, you can play an 18-hole course that's set to challenge even the most expert of golfers. In the west of Jersey, Les Ormes Golf Club is a pleasant nine-hole course – perfect for practicing your putt.
