While its ‘Dreaming Spires’ are famous the world over, Oxford isn’t just a university town. It’s also a place where people come to do business, with international, national and independent companies and traders making it a thriving city. It’s a city that doesn’t just trade on its good looks, although the cobbled lanes, Bridge of Sighs and university colleges are certainly gorgeous.

With so many students moving in and out, van hire in Oxford can really come in useful, and our vans are also perfect for picking up large items such as furniture and white goods.

If you need to travel in or out of town, Oxford is perfectly located for London to the south-east, Bath and Bristol to the south-west and Birmingham to the north-west. Driving in and around Oxford

Oxford

A well-connected university town surrounded by a convenient ring-road, Oxford is ideal for van hire as long as you’re aware of a few restrictions. The older parts of the town, especially around Oxford University, do have some traffic closures it’s best to brush up on, as it may affect where you can pick up and drop off.

Cornmarket, High Street, Magdalen Street East, George Street, Queen Street and Turl Street / Market Street are often to shut to all traffic except for buses and taxis, except for at specific times when delivery vehicles are allowed in. You can access a handy map and in-depth details about the loading and unloading restrictions online. There are parking limitations too, so best to use pay-and-display car parks if you’re going to be a while.

There’s a dual carriageway ring road around the city which is the best way to avoid the centre and the best way to cross from one side of Oxford to the other. The ring road consists of parts of the A34, A44 or Woodstock Road, A40, A4142 and A423. The exits here are ideal if you need to head into the centre itself, or out to the suburbs and surrounding towns. The A34, for example, continues north-east and then becomes the A41 for Bicester then east on to Aylesbury. You can reach the same town by taking the A40 south-east out of Oxford and joining the A418. Alternatively, join the M40 here and you’ll find yourself heading into the Chilterns for High Wycombe and then London.

Other handy routes here include the A420 which winds south-west to Swindon, and the A34 south for Newbury, the North Wessex Downs and Winchester. The Cotswolds sit west of Oxford on the A40, and the M40 also north-west for Leamington Spa and Birmingham.

As you can see, if you need to take your hire van out of Oxford to drop something off or pick something up, you couldn’t be better situated.
