Key motorways in and around Luton
- M1 – a major route in the UK which connects Luton to Watford and London to the south and north to Milton Keynes and Northampton. It passes through the west of the town, along the Luton Northern Bypass.
- A1 (M) – runs parallel to the M1 east of Luton, and travels from London all the way to Edinburgh. It can be reached from Luton via the M1 South, then the A414 east.
- M25 – one of the most well-known and major roads in the UK, the M25 or Great Orbital Motorway encircles Greater London and intersects both the M1 and the A1. It’s around 14 miles south of Luton and is the main commuter belt road of the capital.
Main roads in Luton
- A1081 – runs from Luton Airport to High Barnet, Greater London. It lasts around 20 miles and follows the route of the original A6.
- A505 – travels through central Luton and passes Luton Airport, connecting to the A1081 and joining the M1.
- A6 – this historic A-road travels north out of the town, connecting Luton with nearby Bedford, eventually ending in Carlisle, Cumbria.

The main campus for the University of Bedfordshire is located on Vicarage Street, close to the A505, and enjoys great links to the A6. London Luton Airport
If you’re picking up goods and valuables from London Luton Airport, you’ll find it a short 10-minute drive east of the town centre. Take the A505 out of the town and follow this as it becomes Airport Way to arrive. There is mid and long-stay car parking available near the terminals.
Luton Homebase
