Key motorways in and around Swindon

• M4 – there’s only one key motorway that passes through Swindon, the M4. First known as the London-South Wales Motorway, it was originally built in 1963. The M4 starts in West London, passing Heathrow Airport, before heading out west along the Thames corridor taking in city locations like Reading and Bristol before reaching major population centers in South Wales including Cardiff and Swansea.

Main roads in Swindon

• A419 – this is the road that you’ll need to take if you want to connect with Junction 15 of the M4. It runs along the northeast edge of Swindon, then heads south to the motorway. After crossing it, the road turns into the A346 and passes through Marlborough. To the north of Swindon, it will take you to Cirencester.
• A346 – itcomes off the A419 to the southern edge of Swindon before making its way through Marlborough. It eventually merges with the A338 at Burbage.
• A420 – anyonewanting to head northeast towards the city of Oxford will find that the A420 is a quick and easy way to reach the historic university town. And, with several pick-up/drop-off points there, it couldn’t be more convenient.

You can fly to Europe, the United States, Mexico, and North Africa from Bristol Airport. You can reach the airport by taking the M4 west out of the town, joining at Junction 16 and leaving at Junction 19 for the M32, toward Bristol. Then, simply take the A38, which will lead you to the airport terminals.
