Driving in and around Reading

One of Reading’s great benefits is its proximity to London – you’re only 36 miles away from the capital’s western edge. Head along the M4 and you’ll pass by Maidenhead and Slough, skirting the northern edge of Heathrow Airport, before you hit the ‘Big Smoke’. The same M4 will also take you west to Swindon and Bristol, opening up the West Country.

The other main routes from Reading are the A33 south to nearby Basingstoke, where you can join the M3 for Winchester and Southampton and the A329 (M) south-east to Wokingham and Bracknell, another link to the M3.

If you’ve come from London or the south-west, you’ll still end up on the A33 as it takes you to the very heart of Reading, ending at the River Thames. The University of Reading is situated in the south-east via the A327 (Shinfield Road).

The busiest shopping area here is situated around Minster Street, Friar Street and Broad Street. However, the latter has been pedestrianised, so you’ll need to park nearby if you need to access somewhere on this street. You will find numerous multi-storey and surface car parks nearby, such as the NCP Broad Street Mall, Reading Civic B and plentiful parking at The Oracle, a large shopping centre that boasts some major department stores. However, note that prices for parking here are generally higher than elsewhere in the city. South of the city, just off the A33, is the Reading Gate Retail Park

With close proximity to leading cities and the capital, a plethora of retail hotspots and a bustling university campus, Reading van hire gives you access to all this and more.
