Driving in and around Norwich

Those hiring a van in Norwich will benefit from an extensive, user-friendly road network, and great connections to surrounding towns and villages, as well as cities further afield. It’s worth noting that there are some pedestrianised roads in the very heart of Norwich, most notably London Street and Westlegate. In addition, there are some one-way systems and both bus and cycle lanes to watch out for.

You can skirt the city itself on an outer ring road formed of several other routes, including the A145, Daniels Road, Colman Road, Sweet Briar Road and Mousehold Lane. The River Yare runs through the centre of Norwich and there are numerous bridge crossings. Part of the river runs alongside the A147, which forms an inner ring road. Just south-east of the centre is the Riverside Retail park, close to where Norwich City play football.

If you’re heading in or out of Norwich, the A47 stretches east to Acle and then Great Yarmouth on the coast. The A146 is the south-east spoke which will take you to Gillingham and Lowestoft. Alternatively, you can head south on the A140, passing through Diss - where you can take the A143 south-west to Bury St. Edmunds - before heading on to Ipswich. Here you can join the A12 for Colchester, Chelmsford and, ultimately, London. The same A140 also leads north from Norwich for a short driver to Cromer. There are numerous other routes to and from the city, with the nearby town of Thetford south-west on the A11.

If you find yourself with time to kill after you’ve finished your business, you can take time out to visit the many local highlights - the wonderful 12th century Norman castle, the gorgeously decorated stately rooms of Blickling Hall and a superlative cathedral among them.

Whatever you need van hire in Norwich for, you’re sure to find our vans perfect for your requirements and Norwich a straightforward place to navigate.
