Sea Lions at Pier 39

Location: Beach Street & The Embarcadero, San Francisco

Daily 11am-4pm

San Francisco

An old fishing promenade in San Francisco harbour has become one of the city's most unlikely tourist attractions. But if you visit Pier 39 you'll find it has grown from humble origins to become a lively complex of leisure, shopping and eating establishments. The site also offers impressive waterfront views to Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. Look out for the sea lions that often drop by to lounge on wooden pontoons at the end of the pier. The pier's other visitor highlights include an aquarium, 3D interactive cinema, traditional carousel, street performers and a choice of boat trips round the Bay.
