Originally opened back in 1888, the playground of Golden Gate Park has become iconic for generations of children growing up in San Francisco. The play area become the first public playground in the United States, and after undergoing some maintenance work in 2007 it became known as the Koret Children's Quarter. There is plenty to do to keep children of all ages busy, with a variety of climbing frames, swings and open spaces for them to enjoy   until they are all tuckered out. One of the playground's main features is the authentic carousel housing 62 brightly coloured animals, and the Sharon Building is a short stroll away, where adults and children alike can take part in art workshops.
