Located in heart of the city's Cultural Quarter, Leeds Art Gallery is home to a renowned collection of modern British art. In fact, the Gallery is held in such high regard within the United Kingdom's art landscape, it has been described as "probably the best collection of twentieth century British art outside London" by John Russell Taylor of The Times newspaper.

The gallery has something for all artistic tastes, with the likes of sculptures, watercolours, prints and more contemporary collections all on show. The curiously creative kinds can take in masterpieces dating back centuries, or take inspiration from Yorkshire's own John Atkinson Grimshaw and Barbara Hepworth to sketch their own stunning successes. Leeds Art Gallery also has a great selection of contemporary works, from both across the UK and on a global scale – and this year they are hosting the British Art Show 8, which will be running until 10th January 2016.

Curated by Lydia Yee and Anna Colin, BAS8 will showcase works from 42 different artists who have made major contributions to the to the UK's contemporary art scene. Exhibiting a wide range of art mediums, as well as showcasing fantastic performances, the show will be returning to Leeds after a 25 year absence.

After the British Art Show 8 has conclude, the gallery will be closed to the public so structural work can be undertaken on the roof of the building.

Whether you're a culture vulture, or just want to spend a leisurely afternoon soaking up some art, Leeds Art Gallery is one of the city's must-visit attractions.
