The main rail station for the city of Naples stands on Piazza Garibaldi near the centre of the city and the waterfront. It's a major transport hub for southern Italy, linking to the national and international rail network, local trains, buses and the underground metro. It also provides services to Pompeii and Sorrento. There's a tourism office, restaurants and shops here too. With a hire car from Naples Central Railway Station you're able to access much of Naples easily, despite the renowned traffic. The A3 motorway starts at the edge of Piazza Garibaldi and the busy highway along the waterfront is just beyond that.
Hiring a car from Naples Central Railway Station, so close to the centre of Naples, makes it easy to visit the city's main attractions. The National Archaeological Museum sounds rather dry, but is a world-class treasure house of all the art found at Pompeii. Other things to do in Naples include eating a pizza in the city where it was invented, exploring the narrow streets of the historic centre and seeing a performance in the lavishly gilded auditorium of Teatro San Carlo. Day trips from the city include Vesuvius, Pompeii and the island of Capri and, further afield, the pretty Amalfi Coast.
