The capital of Bavaria and one of the largest cities in Germany, Munich is famous for many things, and is one of the most historically and culturally important cities in Europe. It is in the south of the country and is often cited as being the best German city to live in. Renting a car from Munich makes travelling around the city easy, and the first thing you'll likely see if you are hiring a car at Elisenhof, is the rather impressive Palace of Justice building. Driving further out from there you will find that the whole of Munich and the surrounding area will open up to you.
You might wish to explore the many museums in Munich, including the Deutsches Museum, which is within easy reach and one of the oldest and most prestigious museums in the country. Situated on an island in the River Isar, it's an important science and technology museum, with various collections and exhibitions. Visitors should also head over to the Oktoberfest grounds out of season when it is much quieter, and you can cross the park to see The Golden Friedensengel, an enormous golden statue which presides over the celebrations and operates as an observation deck during the festival period. The statue is a striking figure when seen up close and is well worth a visit.
