Fareham is a quiet market town nestled in the Hampshire countryside, between the big cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. Living here means you can enjoy the quaint shopping streets and the charm of the old country buildings – while staying well-connected.
This peaceful settlement has fantastic links to motorways including the M27 and A27, which really opens up the south of England. Even the capital city of London is less than two hours away via the A3.
Southampton is approximately half an hour westbound on the M27. If you’re dropping off a student, you’ll find the University of Southampton in Portswood, north of the harbour. Follow the M27 and come off at junction 5 – the same junction as Southampton Airport.
There’s also a large IKEA in Southampton, on West Quay Road. While closer to Fareham is Collingwood Retail Park, where you’ll find numerous furniture and homeware stores. When your van is fully-loaded, remember to leave plenty of space between you and the car in front as your breaking time could be affected.
Heading into the centre of Fareham, the standard speed limit is 30mph – the same as UK standards. Traffic is generally fine, but it can get congested near the train station along West Street, so it’s best to avoid this area during peak times.
When it comes to parking in Fareham, you have the full range of options. There are pay and display spaces on the street which start from less than £1 per hour, as well as private car parks and multi-stories. Make sure you check the height restrictions with the latter, to make sure your hire van can get around safely.
