If you visit Balmedie Beach you'll find 14 miles of clean sand backed by one of the UK's biggest areas of dunes. The beach starts five miles north of the city of Aberdeen and continues north past the village of Balmedie. The wide flat shoreline is mostly undeveloped along this stretch: there's just a car park, a few shops, toilets and a boardwalk through the dunes. Barbecues can be hired at the car park and there are family picnic tables nearby. Balmedie Beach is popular for watersports in the Blue Flag clean seawater or for exploring the miles of inspiring sands. It's a great place for horse rides too.
