The city of El Paso lies on the Northern bank of the Rio Grande, at the most western point of Texas where it meets Mexico and New Mexico. Sometimes called the Sun City, El Paso is almost divided in two by the Franklin Mountains, with the west side in the Mesilla Valley and the east extending into the desert. Rent a car from El Paso International Airport and you can explore the historic Central or Downtown district. Here you'll find many delightful shops, cafes, bars and restaurants around the central plaza, as well as museums, theatres and the nearby zoo.
The affluent west side is home to the El Paso Country Club and the historic Kern Place neighbourhood, where you'll find the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and the popular Cincinnati Entertainment District, as well as the Sun Bowl and Don Haskins Center sports stadiums. To the east you can explore the ancient Hueco Tanks and the Mission Trail or, if you hire a car from El Paso International Airport, you could visit the Guadalupe or Carlsbad Caverns National Parks. With hot summers and mild, dry winters, you can usually enjoy the great outdoors uninterrupted all year round.
