Our airport rental car park leads straight to Highway One, giving you the chance to drive wherever you need to go on Oahu Island. This island is Hawaii’s one-stop, all-year destination, where you can find exotic volcanic landscapes, fabulous sandy beaches and sophisticated urban fun.
The sights of Honolulu
A vibrant hub of activity, you’ll find Honolulu is a lively, high-rise city standing around the gorgeous sandy crescent of Waikiki Beach. There’s a party atmosphere in the chic hangouts here, and you’ll be able to sample an inspiring mix of food and culture from both east and west.
To the east of the island is the landmark volcanic peak of Diamond Head. You’ll find it’s a moderate hike to the top, with rest stops and viewing areas on the way. At the summit you’ll get panoramic views across the bay and be able to peer down into the dormant crater.
Historic Honolulu
Although your first thoughts may be of sandy Hawaiian beaches and luscious stretches of coastline, Honolulu is home to some of the island's finest historical and cultural hotspots. Explore the Bishop Museum for a journey through the city's scientific and historic developments, or for a fine example of Islamic architecture, head to Shangri La and take in this masterpiece – you'll find it located next to Diamond Head.
As the former occupancy of King Kamehameha V, Aliiolani Hale is worth checking out. This is a grand mansion with National Register of Historic Places recognition.
Northern exposure
Take a short drive up to the northern shore of Oahu to discover the natural beauty of this volcanic island. The sandy beaches run from Sunset to Waimea Bay, and locals say it’s an area of small farms and big waves, with many spots here being particular favourites among surfers. Even if you don’t join in, it’s fun to sit under a palm tree and take in this surfers’ paradise.
At the far north of the island you can explore Kaena Point State Recreation Area. Here you can spending an afternoon walking through picturesque landscapes while admiring the amazing views out to sea – you might even catch sight of a passing whale.
