Hertz at Chatham

Chatham is one of the Medway towns located in North Kent and is well known for its historic Dockyard which historically provided warships for the Royal Navy. The Dockyard has now become a popular museum in Chatham and the town has as such become the hub of the Medway Towns, making it an ideal place to visit when you hire a car in Chatham. The town also hosts plenty of naval buildings and military connections with several Army barracks. The 19th-century forts located in Chatham once provided a defensive shield for the Dockyard.

For a bit of History, hire a car and visit the Chatham Historic Dockyard Maritime museum, which is located on the River Medway. Chatham Dockyard used to be the forefront of ship building and once provided over 500 ships to the Royal Navy before it closed in 1984. There is plenty to see at the museum including historic warships, the famous submarine HMS Ocelot and a large lifeboat collection. The famous poet Charles Dickens grew up in Chatham and once described it as the happiest period of his childhood. If you are renting a car in Chatham it is worth visiting the Dickens World attraction to explore the Victorian World that Charles Dickens knew and wrote about in his novels and short stories.
