The grand Central Station in Lund was built in the mid 19th-century to serve this city in southern Sweden. It stands on the east side of the tracks, facing the modern city centre. On the west side of the tracks is a small modern station, with a row of shops adjoining and a large parking area. These two sides are linked by a pedestrian bridge. If you hire a car at Lund Station you will be very well placed for the main parts of the city and you'll find it's only a short drive to find the city's ring road.
Lund's main landmark is the enormous medieval cathedral, a grey stone Romanesque church with an elaborate façade flanked by two 55-meter-high towers. It dominates the central skyline and is just a couple of blocks south of the station. If you hire a car from Lund Station it's easy to explore the rest of the city too. The thriving university features some historic buildings, including the old ivy-covered University Library and monumental Main Building. Look out for quaint little cobbled streets of low-rise cottages too, like Hjortgatan, Korsgatan and Mariagatan. And the open-air Kulturen Museum features even more historic rural buildings collected from around the region.
