In the extreme south west of Sweden, the ancient city of Lund is only six miles from the sea and nine miles inland from Malmö, in the heart of fertile agricultural land. The attractive, leafy city is home to Sweden's largest university. The large number of students here help to create a relaxed atmosphere and vibrant nightlife. If you hire a car in Lund you will be able to drive to Sankt Hans Hill, a park to the north of the city, with distant views to Malmö and even to Copenhagen in Denmark. Further east, discover the lush broadleaf forests and nature reserves in Dalby National Park.
Lund's most famous attraction is the enormous grey stone Lutheran cathedral, one of Sweden's oldest churches dating back to the 11th century. If you hire a car in Lund, the cathedral is easy to find among the cobbled streets and preserved buildings of the charming old quarter. Nearby is Kulturen, an acclaimed open-air museum with more than two million exhibits from the Skåne region. Look out too for the University's Botanical Garden boasting 7,000 different plants, and Lund Art Gallery, which specialises in international contemporary art. Meanwhile the top family attraction is the entertainingly interactive Vattenhallen Science Centre.
