Kristianstad's small regional airport stands six miles to the south of the city, among neat flat farmland. There's a modern white terminal building with car parking outside. The short airport access road leads straight to the main road heading north to the city. In the other direction it heads to the port of Ystad on the south coast. The pretty little town of Everöd lies in the trees just to the south of the runway. That's why the airfield is sometimes called Everöd Airport by locals. Everöd is known for its charming old white church with a high stone tower.
Much of Kristianstad is protected by flood defences as it stands below sea level. If you arrive here with a hire car you'll find it is surrounded by a watery landscape of woods and lakes, like Hammersjon and Araslovssjon, and stands a few miles inland from Hanö Bay in the east of Skane. The nearby visitor highlights include the historical coastal town of Åhus as well as the impressive Korsholm Mansion, nestled on Lake Oppmannasjon's shores. In Kristianstad itself, you'll discover a highly rated old church and the old stone gates by exploring the historic pedestrianised heart of the city.
