Pico Airport is an airport situated approximately 15 minutes from Madalena on the Portuguese Pico Island. Pico Island is home to the volcano Ponta do Pico which is the highest mountain in Portugal. It is also known as the Black Island because of its black volcanic earth which makes its historical vineyards UNESCO listed. Hiring a car from Pico Airport means that you can make your way around the island at your own leisure. You can climb the mountain or head to the coast for a spot of whale watching, you can even go swimming in a tidal, lava pool.

Do I need to have a driver’s license to rent a car from Hertz Car Rental - Pico Airport?

At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid national driver's license which has been held for at least 1 year.

Important Notice for Customers with UK Driving Licences issued in Great Britain

When renting in Portugal, all drivers with a UK licence (except Northern Ireland) will need to provide evidence of any driving endorsements. This also applies if you have a paper licence that was issued before 1998.

You will need to provide a ‘Check Code’ which enables you to share your driving record with someone, for example a car hire company. Check Codes are valid for 21 days.

For all Non-European Union renters an International Driving Permit (IDP) is mandatory by law.

The IDP translates the national license into various languages and is on its own, without the national license, not acceptable.

Driver's licences issued by the People's Republic of China may be accepted provided you present an official Hertz Certification form. Hertz China will issue this form on Hertz notepaper and will incorporate the Hertz China Corporate seal. A scanned copy of the original licence will appear on the Certification form. The Certification form is valid until the expiry date of the Driver's Licence. BOTH the Certification and the original licence MUST be produced at the time of rental.

If you hold a Driver's Licence issued in Vietnam, you need to present the original licence together with an authorised translation issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport. If both documents are presented at time of rental these licences are acceptable worldwide.

Does Hertz Car Rental - Pico Airport have a car rental ‘grace period’?

Extra day is charged after 29 minutes over 24 hour rental period.

What if I only need a rental car one way from Hertz Car Rental - Pico Airport? Do I have to rent for a roundtrip?

A one way rental is a rental which starts at one location and terminates at another. Availability is subject to location restrictions and vehicle type. A fee may apply for this service and will be advised at time of reservation.

Do I have to put gas in, or charge, my rental car from Hertz Car Rental - Pico Airport?

Hertz rates do not include fuel.

All Hertz vehicles are rented with a full tank of petrol and must be returned with a full tank or a refuelling service charge of € 40.60 (including tax) in addition to the cost of fuel will apply.

Fuel Purchase Option (FPO)
For your convenience, you may purchase a tank of fuel from Hertz at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations. This method eliminates the need for you to refill the tank before returning. Please be aware that we are unable to give a refund for unused fuel.
