The Arab state, Oman, is located on the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula. Mesmerising Muscat is the capital city of Oman and is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea. The city is the perfect fusion between old and new and filled with swanky restaurants mixed with white-washed suburbs.
If you're looking to explore the wider state, then hire a car in Oman and head to the city's most recognisable landmark – the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. This prayer carpet took four years to make and weighs in at a staggering 21 tonnes. You can also view the spectacular chandelier which is 14 metres tall.
Rent a car from Oman National Travel & Tourism – Hertz Building No 77 which is conveniently located close to the city, and drive to Al Alam Palace. Also named the “Flag Palace”, it's the most important residence of the current monarch Sultan Qaboos. The palace is particularly flamboyant in design and is a great example of contemporary Islamic design. While it cannot be visited by the public, it can still be viewed from the outside. Something else you should not miss when in Muscat is turtle watching at Ras al Jinz. Here hundreds of green turtles leave the ocean so that they can lay eggs on the Sharqiya beach.
