This regional airport stands 10 miles south of the small town of Forde in western Norway in an area known as Bringeland. This single-runway airfield occupies a remote flat area surrounded by rolling wooded hills, lakes and mountains. Bringeland Airport opened in 1986, replacing the old Oyrane Airport in the town itself. It has a small modern terminal building and plenty of paid outside parking. Visitors who hire car at Førde Airport find that the airport access road, the Fv423, leads straight to the Rv57 and the E39 trunk roads. The city of Bergen is a 110-mile drive away.
If you pick up a hire car at Førde Airport, Bringeland, you're probably in for a long drive whichever direction you head. This remote area is known locally as ‘the land of the waterfalls'. To be accurate it's also the land of mountains, rivers, woods and lakes but there's not much in the way of human culture and entertainment. Forde is the biggest town and that's ten miles away. Forde is a modern commercial hub and its main claim to tourism fame is that it is the start of a renowned driving route on the Fv13, passing quaint traditional farms, dramatic scenery and, of course, waterfalls.
