Tiburtina Station stands in the northeast of Rome, about three miles from the city centre. It's a hub for the Italian high-speed inter-city services on the Milan-Naples line, hundreds of regional trains and has its own Metro station. The interior of this ultra-modern station is more like a contemporary airport, while outside is one of Rome's major bus terminals handling both local and international coaches. If you hire a car at Tiburtina you'll find it's very well placed for the road network too. The Tangenziale ring road passes right next to the station, as does the SS5 dual carriageway heading east.
The northeast district of Rome where Tiburtina stands is also where you'll find the huge 19th-century Campo del Verano cemetery, the German art museum at Villa Massimo and the neo-classical mansion and gardens at Villa Mirafiori. But if you have a hire car from Rome Tiburtina station, it's easy to reach other attractions, like the beautiful Villa Borghese's landscaped gardens and the Trevi Fountain. Nearby, there's another famous spot: Piazza di Spagna, where you'll find the Spanish Steps. And it's not much further to all the major attractions, including the Roman Forum, St Peter's papal basilica and the Vatican, and the Coliseum gladiators' arena.
