If you travel to Pompeii by train you'll probably arrive at Scavi Station, sometimes called by its full name Pompeii Scavi – Villa dei Misteri. This is the main visitor station for the ancient ruins on the Naples–Sorrento line known as the Circumvesuviana. The small Scavi Station stands in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, a few hundred yards from the main entrance to the archaeological site on Via Roma. If you hire a car from Pompeii Railway Station you can easily visit the Pompeii archaeological site and the rest of the town, as well as nearby Herculaneum and the long list of other attractions in the area.
