Walsrode is a town in Lower Saxony, which like most towns and cities in the region has a very long history. Walsrode was first mentioned in 986, and had probably already been there for a long time. The town is now a refreshing mix of old and new - there are still examples of Saxon architecture to be seen, alongside modern parks that are beautifully manicured.
You will want to hire a car in Walsrode because the main attractions include a safari park that you have to drive through, though there are plenty of other activities on offer as well.
Walsrode is unique among other towns in Saxony because it contains a small piece of the Serengeti. The Serengeti Park is a driven safari so arrange to hire a car -where you drive through the park and see hundreds of different kinds of animals. There is an amusement park at the end, to keep the fun going.
Walsrode also has a riding school, where non-riders are welcome, or there are a number of parks in the city. Not all sightseeing opportunities or activities are close together though, and hiring a car in Walsrode is a good idea if you want to see them all.
