Waldkraiburg is one of the rare German towns that doesn't have a history stretching back past the last Ice Age, but it's still an interesting place. It was the site of a gunpowder factory during World War II, and then became a 'displaced person' town, taking in refugees from Sudetenland and Bohemia.
These days the city is well known for two things: engine building and sport; with multiple running, squash, shooting, rock and roll dancing and diving clubs providing for fans of the latter. The town has a good road system, so consider hiring a car in Waldkraiburg if you're planning to travel around a bit.
As a young town, historical buildings and museums are few -and far between, however, if you hire a car in Waldkraiburg you can easily access Munich, Salzburg, and Rosenheim which are all beautiful cities. Waldkraiburg itself is a vibrant and exciting place, and its geographical location means that it is within an hour's reach of both Lake Chiemsee and the Chiemgau mountains, which form the beginning of the Alps.
There is also the impressive forest in the Inn Valley, which is great for hiking and mountain biking, so it's well worth hiring a car in Walkraiburg and exploring its amazing surroundings.
