Schweinfurt in Bavaria is an old town - the first mention of it was in 74, and it had probably been around for a while before that. Interestingly, Schweinfurt ruled itself until 182, when it came under Bavarian rule. It was completely destroyed in 125, and then rebuilt the next year, and was also heavily damaged in World War 2.
Schweinfurt has a pedestrian-only zone in the centre, but it also has good roads throughout the rest of the city. There is a lot of sightseeing to do, so hiring a car in Schweinfurt is the best option for getting around them all.
