Frechen is a town in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany. It is situated immediately west of Cologne, and could easily be included in the wider metropolitan area of its illustrious neighbour. Frechen is also a short drive to the borders of both Belgium and Netherlands, which are both less than an hour away. Car hire from Frechen is a popular option for this very reason, and if you're planning to commute to Cologne or elsewhere, the Frechen branch is a great option. The RheinEnergieStadion, in western Cologne, is a great attraction and Frechen is the perfect location to begin your trip.
The landmark of Frechen is undoubtedly the spaceship-like Keramion building, which is home to a ceramics museum, a doffed cap to Frechen's formerly lucrative ceramics trade. Kermaion is situated on Bonnstraße in the east of the town. If you're hiring a car from Frechen, the museum is a good stop-off point on the way to Cologne as it's close to the B264 which leads directly into the city. Head this way for the RheinEnergieStadion, before entering the heart of Cologne; the city that is home to Cologne Cathedral and the famous Koelner Zoo. Bonn is due south on the A555, and here you'll find the German National Museum of Contemporary History.
