Aachen is an impressive city in the Westphalia region in Germany, close to both Belgium and the Netherlands. Hiring a car from Aachen has real potential to open up a lot of Europe for travellers, thanks to its great location. The architecture here is baroque, and the city is also referred to as ‘Bad Aachen'; bad meaning bathroom, thanks to the spa located in the city. The beautiful Carolus Thermen spa is built in an almost Roman style, with thermal waters and plenty of saunas. The city houses Aachen Cathedral, which is the largest cathedral north of the Alps, and the earliest in northern Europe, dating back to 796AD. International equestrian events are popular in the city too, particularly dressage and show jumping.
Aachen is a city with a lot on offer. Visitors can hire a car from Aachen and visit Dreiländerek, which is the place where Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium meet, as well as being the highest point in the Netherlands. By climbing the watchtower, on a clear day you are able to see quite a way into the distance across all three countries. Alternatively you can rent a car from Aachen and visit the Dutch town of Vaals. Located just a ten minute drive away from the centre of Aachen, it's a short drive and has some beautiful buildings which include a fascinating Benedictine Monastery.
