Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria, and is one of the leading cities in the world in terms of art and culture and is popular with tourists. Melbourne is vast in size; there is much to see and do, so it's a good idea to make the most of car hire in the city. You can enjoy sightseeing in the car, then return to the city in the evening to take in a performance, or eat at one of the local restaurants. The region is famous for its self-drive tours, so hiring a car is a good move.
Melbourne is a dynamic and vibrant place to be; deciding on where to explore is difficult, but we certainly recommend the Queen Victoria Market. The market was established in 1878, and remains a bustling attraction today, where you can buy pretty much anything. By hiring a car in Melbourne and travelling just a short distance from the city centre, you will find the Werribee Open Range Zoo; home to gorillas, lions, monkeys and cheetahs. The Victoria region is intriguingly diverse, and renting a car is a great way to cover as much ground as you wish during your stay.
The road trip from Melbourne to Apollo Bay is actually part of a larger tour that can be broken up into separate trips, or done in one go over the space of about a week. Roughly 180km to Apollo Bay, (which takes about two hours by car), this tour will take you past Torquay, where you'll find beaches ideal for surfing. From here you can pick up the Great Ocean Road, bringing you to the town of Anglesea which boasts a beautiful golf course, complete with kangaroos! Past Anglesea there's nothing but stunning views of the ocean until you reach Lorne - which does great fresh fish and chips.
