Proserpine is in Queensland, Australia - located on the Bruce Highway, the town itself is fairly remote, but the natural resources around it are spectacular. If you make the most of car hire in Proserpine, then it is only a short drive to Airlie Beach. The Great Barrier Reef isn't far from here, and it doesn't take long to get to the Whitsunday Islands either. The Bruce Highway, which runs through the town, means that hiring a car in Proserpine is the key to the rest of Queensland, which has hundreds of national parks, mountain ranges, and areas of beauty.
Proserpine is only just becoming a tourist location, and so many of its attractions are not yet as busy as tourist attractions often are. Hiring a car in Proserpine will allow you to see two national parks that are close to the town, the Dryander National Park and the Conway National Park. Conway Park is close to Airlie Beach - by renting a car in Proserpine you can see both in one day - and is just north of the town. In the park you can explore areas of rainforest, or you can take a trail up to Mount Rooper, where you can see the Whitsunday Passage.
Proserpine is in an ideal location for heading out into the countryside and exploring. Half an hour's drive from the town is the Peter Faust Dam, which also goes under the name of Lake Proserpine. People mainly go there to fish, as it is possible to fish for barramundi all year round, and more fish get introduced every year. Guided tours around the dam and lake are available all year, as the area benefits from mild winters. Alternatively, you can take a drive down Saltwater Creek Road to the Cedar Creek Falls. These waterfalls have a calm pool at the bottom, where you can swim.
