Moruya is on the Moruya River, in New South Wales. It is on the Princes Highway, and only 35km south of Sydney. It is an agricultural centre, and an established tourist destination. Due to the highway, car hire in Moruya means that it's possible to go for days out to Sydney or Canberra, which is only 175km away. Moruya has a lot of historic buildings, and interestingly hosts a rodeo and a jazz festival each year. Moruya is a good place to make day trips from, and hiring a car here will make the surrounding area more accessible.
Moruya is an agricultural centre with a very traditional lifestyle, which includes markets on a Saturday. These draw out the locals and tourists, and there is a lively atmosphere. Those hiring a car in Moruya will be able to make the drive out to the Deua National Park, which is great for hiking, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. Nearby are the Bendethera limestone caves. Renting a car in Moruya is a necessary to get out to the caves, and once there you need to swap to a four wheel drive vehicle. There are plenty of 4WD guided tours available, and the caves are amazing to see.
Moruya is in an amazing location for making day trips. It's not that far from the back, and just 10kms out of the town is Moruya Heads, which offers great views of the coast to the north, and of the Moruya River estuary. You can see the beginnings of the Eastern Escarpment mountain range, and from there you can also access a long line of beaches, some so remote that they don't even have names. Sydney is a drivable distance away, as is the city of Canberra - or you can take the mountain road and explore the Escarpment.
