If you visit the award-winning National Railway Museum in York you will discover giant displays of real trains. When you see the Mallard - the world's fastest steam train, a Bullet Train from Japan and Queen Victoria's opulent personal rail carriage side-by-side you'll realise why this has been voted one of Europe's top museums. In fact the National Railway Museum makes a whole day out for a family: you can enjoy interactive displays about working in a station, watch real engineers renovating locomotives in the workshop, and enjoy an outdoor play area with a miniature train ride. Look out for special steam train rides during the school holidays too.
