Famed for its food, heritage and culture, Texas is one of the most popular tourist destinations within the USA. The Lone Star State has a variety of attractions ranging from the historical site of the Alamo to SeaWorld, and in recent years this huge area has become a great location to visit with the family.

Here are a few top things to do suitable for adults and children alike:

Zip Nac

Are you a family of thrill seekers who love to live life on the edge? If so, a visit to the Zip Nac activity centre is a must during your trip to Texas. Based around a two-hour drive from Houston, you and your children can enjoy tackling Zip Nac's course of ziplines, varying in height and length. There are trained specialist to help to get to grips with gliding through the air and you can go in tandem - if your children are a little bit scared! One of the highlights of Zip Nac is taking the night tour where the route is illuminated with spectacular bright lights.

Silver Spur Guest Ranch

You can't take a trip to Texas without visiting a traditional ranch, and Silver Spur is one of the finest the state has to offer. Based in the Bandera area, there is something to keep all your family happy at the ranch - classic Texan outdoor BBQ's, horseback riding, hay wagon rides and the complex even has a swimming pool for you to cool down in. All you'll need is a pair of blue jeans and a red bandana and you'll feel at home in this Wild West haven.

NASA Space Center

As arguably the most historically important attraction in Texas, visiting the NASA Space Center in Houston is way to spend a day with your kids. The Center played a pivotal role in the 1960's 'Space Race' and now homes a whole host of exhibits and attractions detailing the history of space travel. Be sure to check of the Blast-Off Theatre and the Kids Space Place - both offering fun and adventure for adults and children.

Gladys Porter Zoo

The zoo was originally founded in 1971 by Mrs Gladys Porter and is now recognised as one of the top animal attractions in the United States. Covering over 26 acres and homing 1,300 animals from a variety of species, the zoo's highlights are the Free Flight bird aviary and the Tropical America exhibit, and visitors can learn more about all the creatures at Gladys Porter through the educational programs on offer.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Located in San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas is well suited for adults and children of all ages. The parks is home to over a hundred different rides, offering an excellent range for those thrill seekers, or those looking to just have a bit of fun. Six Flags stand out rides include the Tony Hawk's Big Spin, the Southwest's only bottomless rollercoaster and, for the younger visitors, Yosemite Sam's Wacky Wagon.
