The three-runway, two-concourse airport at Tulsa mainly deals with domestic flights within the USA. As its name implies, however, Tulsa International Airport deals with international flights too. Visitors who arrange to pick up a hire car here will find the road connections are good: the nearby Interstate 244 road leads straight to the heart of Tulsa, while the immediate surroundings are interesting too. The popular Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium stands in the corner of the airfield and right alongside are the woods and lakes of Mohawk Park; a vast green area complete with a zoo, hiking trails and golf course.
Amid green rolling hills between the Ozark Mountains foothills and the Great Plains, Tulsa has expanded from its origins as an oil town. It has a busy inland port on the Arkansas River, an acclaimed collection of art deco architecture and a surprisingly rich cultural heritage. With a hire car from Tulsa International Airport, it's easy to explore attractions like the Woody Guthrie Centre, telling the story of this 1930s folk singer, and Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, housed in the grand old Union Station. There is plenty of art to see too, at venues like Philbrook, housed inside a gorgeous Italianate mansion, and the Gilcrease Museum which sits in a beautiful estate.
