Founded on the shores of the Missouri River in 1854, Omaha is the biggest city in Nebraska. The Old Market district in downtown Omaha is listed in the National Register of Historical Places, and is home to an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars and art galleries, as well as the city's flourishing theatre scene.
If you like fresh air, you can visit the Heartland of America Park with its 300 feet high fountains, or Memorial Park, which boasts a playground, baseball field and historical monuments. Next door, Elmwood Park has an 18-hole golf course and swimming pool, as well as hosting the Shakespeare on the Green festival every summer.
