The tiny leafy town of Vara is found in southwest Sweden, in the rural area between the country’s two biggest lakes, Vättern and Vänern. It stands on the main E2 trunk road, about 55 miles north east of Gothenburg and is surrounded by villages and farms, forests, lakes and rivers. If you hire a car in Vara you can take day-trips to either of the big lakes. Highlights of the countryside around Vara itself include the archeological sights of Larv, the Royal church at Stora Levene and the riverside swimming pool at Travad.
