Växjö Småland Airport occupies a flat strip of land between woods and lakes in central southern Sweden. It's six miles northwest of Växjö, next to a village called Öjaby, Helgasjön Lake and rather strangely, a huge office equipment distribution centre. Nevertheless, this small regional airfield has an efficient modern terminal with plenty of parking outside. It is quite capable of handling international flights as well as domestic ones. Travellers who hire a car at Växjö Airport find that the short airport access road leads to the National Route 30, and then north into the lakes or south to Växjö itself.
There seem to be lakes in all directions in this watery landscape. If you hire a car from Växjö Airport you can explore beaches, lakeside trails and watersports. The highlights include a visit to Helgasjön Lake or Lake Växjösjon where there are plenty of trails to explore. If you drive into Växjö you'll find it's a historical city with the cathedral and university, but also with plenty of urban attractions, including Teleborg Castle and Kronoberg overlooking Lake Helgasjön. Look out too for the city water tower, it's a public viewpoint with a strange ‘echo chamber' inside.
