Sundsvall-Timrå Airport stands five miles from the town of Timrå halfway up Sweden's west coast. It occupies a flat island at the delta-like mouth of the river Bottenhavet. The airport, also known as Midlanda, features a modern terminal and a leafy car park outside. Visitors who hire a car from Sundsvall-Timrå Airport soon find that the road connections are excellent. The terminal access road leads straight to the E4 coastal highway just a few yards from the end of the runway. The E4 bridges the islands at the river's mouth. It heads west to Timrå and east to Härnösand. Sundsvall is about 12 miles to the south.
Timrå has an attractive waterside location with a mix of old and new developments. If you tour the town in a hire car from Sundsvall-Timrå Airport you'll spot old lakeside mansions and modern apartment blocks in the woods. Locals have a reputation as fanatical ice-hockey fans thanks to an impressive stadium and successful team. Further south, the city of Sundsvall has a historic centre known as ‘Stone City' because builders used stone instead of wood. Sundsvall's other highlights include one of the country's biggest shopping. There is also the warehouses by the harbour that house Kulturmagasinet, with restaurants, museums and a library inside.
