Skövde is a small city in central southern Sweden about 9 miles northeast of Gothenburg and between the country's two major lakes, Vättern and Vänern. It has a long history as a religious and military centre but more recently has become known as the home of a big Volvo factory and a high-tech park of computer game developers. If you rent a car in Skövde you can easily visit the surrounding rolling countryside, including sights like the beautiful Silverfallet waterfall, Vamb's medieval stone church, Simsjon lake and the Billingen mesa offering views back over the city.
Visitors who hire a car in Skövde can explore its places of interest in and around the city. With more than 40 stores, the central shopping mall is the largest in the region and the city's Kulturhus combines the museum, art gallery, theatre and cinema into one building. Other spots to look out for include the city museum, which houses around 40,000 items of local significance, and an area of wooden buildings that survived the great fire of 1759, which is preserved in the Helensparken gardens. There's also a military museum, sport history museum and a Volvo museum in the local area.
