The large busy Central railway station on Jamvagsgatan is a good introduction to the southern Swedish town of Nässjö. It faces right into the centre of this small modern community. The railway station is so impressive for such a small town because it marks the junction of six different rail routes. The main public square, town hall and high street shops are just a few yards away. So if you hire a car at Nässjö Station you'll already be in the heart of the town, although it's also easy to reach the R31 by-pass road for car journeys further afield.
Nässjö Central Station is an important landmark in the town as it has the most lines converging together of any Swedish station. The railway system was integral to the town's growth. Nässjö's main tourist attraction is railway-related too. The Järnvägsmuseum in the town centre, near the Central Station, is a popular collection of historic locomotives and railway artifacts. It even arranges regular steam train rides. Other highlights are the view from the public water tower and the pretty old Kulturhuset arts centre. If you have a hire car from Nässjö Station it's easy to tour around this leafy town among the lakes and the surrounding rural areas of Jönköping County.
